About VerifyED
VerifyED (verifyed.org) helps admissions offices, registrars, and compliance teams at colleges and universities verify school credentials and spot diploma mills.
How it works
- Search
Enter a school name, location, or CEEB code to find the record.
- Review
Read the verification status, accreditation, and fraud indicators.
- Enrich
Ask for AI research when the record on file cannot settle the question.
What you get
- Coverage
- 1.3 million+ imported school records from official registers and supplementary sources. Source authority and coverage vary by jurisdiction.
- Fraud checks
- School names checked against watchlists of diploma mills and unrecognised providers. A name match requires identity review.
- Evidence
- Accreditation, contact details, and risk indicators, each one naming where it came from.
Confidence and enrichment
Confidence is an evidence score, not a guarantee. Read the source authority and date beside a finding. Official records can lag closures, name changes, and accreditation changes between source updates.
The score moves as VerifyED adds evidence: registry quality, address validation, operating status, accreditation, AI-assisted public web research, fraud reports, and matches against known diploma mills.
Enrichment adds deeper checks — Street View and address validation, public web research, source-backed contacts, web and social presence, fraud indicators, and regulatory or watchlist matches where they exist. Managed enrichment requires separate access; availability is agreed during setup.
A note on how to use it
VerifyED supports a decision; it does not make one. Follow your institution's policies, and check high-stakes decisions against primary sources where they are available. Institution recognition does not prove an applicant's attendance or award, document authenticity, program accreditation, or transfer-credit eligibility.
